Formation of coal.

Coal was formed by the decoration of plants and trees buried under the surface of earth long long ago. It is believed that millions of years ago, due to earthquakes, flood and volcanic activities, the forest were buried under the surface of the earth and were covered with sand, clay and water.

Wood under the effect of high temperature and Pressure in the absence of air, gets converted into coal. 

Peat. 

Lignite. 

Bituminous.

Anthracite is the best variety of coal.
