How rayon was prepared

Rayon was prepared towards the end of 19th century. Rayon has a silky texture. That is why rayon is also known as artificial silk. Rayon was made from cellulose obtained from wood pulp. 

Rayon is cheaper than silk. It can be dried in many colours and can be woven like silk fibre. Rayon can be blended with cotton to form clothing material. 

Uses of rayon are given below :

1. In the textile industry for making fabrics. 

2. In the manufacture of carpets.

3. For manufacturing tyre cord. 

4. For making bandages and other surgical dressings.
