Why acid rain causes
Why acid rain causes
Burning of coal, petrol, and diesel produces carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, oxides of sulphur, oxides of nitrogen, and unburnt hydrocarbons. All oxides escape into the atmosphere. The oxides of nitrogen and sulphur present in the air dissolve in rain water to produce sulphuric and nitric acids.
The rain water containing dissolved oxides of sulphur and nitrogen is called acid rain.
